Racecar driver dead after crashing during race at Great Lakes Dragaway

UNION GROVE, WI (RACINE COUNTY) – A racecar driver died after crashing his vehicle during a race at the Great Lakes Dragaway in Union Grove on Saturday afternoon, according to information from FOX 6 Now.

The collision happened during a race at about 4:30 p.m., when the driver of a late-model custom Corvette drag vehicle lost control of his car. The driver, identified as 66-year-old Charles Weck, of Marengo, Illinois, crashed into a concrete wall at a speed of approximately 200 mph.

Weck, who was wearing full safety restraints and a helmet, was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The collision remains under investigation at this time.
